Pandemic Emergency Assistance Fund (PEAF)

The Nevada Division of Welfare and Supportive Services (DWSS) has been given the opportunity through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021 Pandemic Emergency Assistance Fund (PEAF) to further assist needy Nevada families impacted by COVID-19.

All Nevada TANF households eligible in the month of August 2021, and which have not been identified as having received another PEAF benefit, will receive a one-time automatic payment of $185 for each child determined eligible on the household’s case in the month of August 2021. This benefit will be issued as a cash payment and is anticipated to be deposited onto the current Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card linked to the case in the month of December 2021. If you do not currently have an EBT card, please be sure to visit your local Welfare office and provide proof of ID to obtain a card. The intent of this payment is to assist families with children with school and/or winter clothing needs to help alleviate some of the additional burdens resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Your PEAF payment will not be counted in your Nevada SNAP or Nevada Medicaid case as income.

Helpful Information

Who is eligible for the Pandemic Emergency Assistance Fund (PEAF) one-time payment issued through the State of Nevada?

Nevada families with children determined eligible in the month of August 2021 will receive $185 per eligible child, unless it has been determined that the household received a PEAF benefit from another source. The children must have been determined eligible for the month of August 2021 no later than October 15, 2021.

How do I apply to receive the one-time, non-recurrent Nevada PEAF payment for my child(ren)?

There is no additional application that needs to be completed. This automatic payment will be issued to those households with children on their current Nevada TANF case that were determined eligible for TANF for the month of August 2021. If the child was determined eligible for August 2021 benefits by October 15, 2021, and did not receive any other PEAF benefit, they are anticipated to receive the $185 allotment.

How will I receive payment of the one-time PEAF benefit?

If determined eligible, the benefit amount will be automatically deposited onto your active Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card. If you do not currently have an EBT card, please be sure to visit your local Welfare office and provide proof of ID to obtain a card.

When can I expect to receive the one-time PEAF payment?

This one-time automatic payment is anticipated to be issued in the month of December 2021.

What can I use the PEAF cash benefit towards?

DWSS is issuing this short-term, non-recurrent cash payment to eligible Nevada TANF households with the intent that it be used to assist the family with school and/or winter clothing needs for their children. The purpose of the PEAF payment is to assist in meeting each child’s educational and clothing needs to lessen the barriers created by the COVID-19 pandemic. Please note that the guidelines and penalties relating to restricted uses for TANF EBT also apply to the one-time PEAF benefits.

What else should I know about this automatic one-time PEAF payment?

The Pandemic Emergency Assistance Fund payment is an automatic, non-recurrent cash payment to help alleviate some of the additional burdens resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. While DWSS works hard to help those in need, there are times, whether due to system or human error, or potentially unforeseen circumstances, the benefit may not be issued on-time or may not be issued at all, even for children determined eligible in the eligible month. Potentially due to system limitations, funding logistics, timeframes and/or other barriers, DWSS will not be able to issue a payment after the initial distribution date, regardless of the reason.
