The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - Education

SNAP-ED

The Nevada Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - Education (SNAP-Ed) is a FREE nutrition and physical activity education program that empowers SNAP participants, including low-income Nevadans and those receiving other federal assistance, to make healthy choices. Our mission is to provide practical tools, and strategies, based on needs assessments, to help participants buy and prepare healthy foods on a budget, increase their physical activity, and adopt a balanced lifestyle.
Through our FREE educational programs, we reach communities across the state, including local health offices, social services, food banks, schools, libraries, community centers, and more. By providing access to nutrition education, school/community gardens, and healthier school lunchrooms, we aim to make the healthy choice the easy choice for Nevadans.
The Nevada Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Division of Welfare and Supportive Services (DWSS) is the Nevada SNAP-Ed Administrator. Starting 2024, DWSS partnered with the Board of Regents, Nevada System of Higher Education, on behalf of the University of Nevada, Reno Extension (UNR-EXT) to streamline SNAP Ed processes (implementation, outcome evaluation, and reporting) and to prioritize the delivery of consistent and cohesive SNAP-Ed services statewide.
