The mission of the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services Training Unit is to develop team members to their fullest potential thereby ensuring an efficient and effective workforce.

Available Training

Requesting training is described in the Welfare Administrative Manual and is summarized here:

  1. Online E-Learning - No formal request necessary. Taken as work schedule allows. Links to on-line training in NEATS->Training->Browse Courses or via links below.
  2. In-Service Training - This is training arranged for and supported by management staff for Division employees, and conducted by a Divsion employee or outside consultant contracted by the Division. Refer to NEATS->Training->Browse Courses for class schedules.
  3. Out-service Training - As determined by Unit Manager. Requested via HR-1.
  4. Employee Development Assistance Training - As determined by Unit Manager. Requested via HR-1.

Professional Development Center (PDC)

The Professional Development Centers (PDC) in Las Vegas and Reno serve two important purposes. The first is providing an adequate training facility and available classrooms needed to help welfare recipients develop to their highest level of self-sufficiency; the second is providing a training environment for staff, both Welfare Division staff and other agencies wishing to use the facility.

Northern PDC:

Northern PDC resources may be reserved on a first-come basis by contacting Laura Gastelum at (702) 488-5240. See PDC resource guide link for reservation directions. NPDC resources include:

  • 14 seat Academy classroom with computers
  • 18 seat computer training lab

Southern PDC:

Southern PDC resources may be reserved on a first-come basis by contacting Anest Buckingham at (702) 486-1429. See PDC resource guide link for reservation directions. SPDC resources include:

  • 24 seat Academy with computers
  • 1 - 21 seat computer training lab
  • 1 - 28 seat computer training lab
  • 2 Training rooms
  • 2 Conference rooms

Training Development Team (TDT)

The role of the Training Development Team (TDT) is to act as a vehicle through which all stakeholders in the development and delivery of a training course of instruction may have input as to the validity, efficacy and need for such instruction.
